Math Workshops for High School Teachers
Hands-On Math Teacher Training Workshops
Math Medic's math teacher workshops give high school educators the strategies and resources to bring discovery-based learning into their classrooms. Whether you're attending one of our upcoming sessions or booking a workshop for your school, you'll leave with tools you can use the very next day.
About Math Medic's Math Teacher Training
These math teacher training workshops are built for high school educators at every stage, from first-year teachers to veterans with 25 years in the classroom.Â
You'll learn practical techniques to help your students engage with math more deeply, whether you're teaching Algebra 1 or AP Calculus.
Here’s what else you need to know:
Method
Math Medic uses the Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) teaching philosophy, so your students will learn through discovery instead of memorization.
Delivery
Depending on the workshop type, we offer both in-person and virtual workshops. The virtual workshops are synchronous. We also offer virtual courses which are asynchronous, so you can learn from practically anywhere with an internet connection or deep-dive in a dedicated space.
Length
The duration of these workshops vary, but most in-person and synchronous online sessions are a half-day or a full-day. Asynchronous virtual courses take place over six weeks.
The Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) Format
Memorization can only take your students so far. That’s why Math Medic uses the EFFL format.
EFFL is a teaching model where students collaborate to think, discuss, and construct their own understanding of new content before their teacher helps them learn about formal definitions and formulas.
This style of teaching is designed to help students understand the "why and how" of mathematical concepts before moving into practice, fluency, and application.
This makes for a more engaging, practical approach to mathematics that can help high school students at any level understand what they’re learning.
Want to see EFFL in action? Register for an upcoming workshop or request a session for your school.
