Math Workshops for High School Teachers
Educating Educators with Hands-On Training
Math Medic provides engaging, hands-on math workshops to help high school teachers make discovery-based learning part of their classroom experience.
Regardless of the math courses you teach, our workshops provide strategies and resources you can use as soon as you’re back in the classroom.
About These Math Workshops
These training programs are designed for high school math teachers, including those teaching AP-level courses.
Whether you’re a brand-new educator or you’ve been teaching for 25 years, these workshops are designed to help your students learn in more meaningful ways.
Here’s what else you need to know:
Method
Math Medic uses the Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) teaching philosophy, so your students will learn through discovery instead of memorization.
Delivery
Depending on the workshop type, we offer both in-person and virtual workshops. The virtual workshops are synchronous. We also offer virtual courses which are asynchronous, so you can learn from practically anywhere with an internet connection or deep-dive in a dedicated space.
Length
The duration of these courses can vary, but you can attend most over the course of a few days to over six weeks for virtual sessions, or a half-day or full-day in-person session, depending on the subjects being covered and other factors.
The Experience First, Formalize Later (EFFL) Format
Memorization can only take your students so far. That’s why Math Medic uses the EFFL format.
EFFL is a teaching model where students collaborate to think, discuss, and construct their own understanding of new content before their teacher helps them learn about formal definitions and formulas.
This style of teaching is designed to help students understand the "why and how" of mathematical concepts before moving into practice, fluency, and application.
This makes for a more engaging, practical approach to mathematics that can help high school students at any level understand what they’re learning.
